Halloween Red Riding Hood

As Red Riding Hood wandered through the forest to her Grandma’s house she stumbled across an apple. “How strange,” she thought. The tree it sat below was not an apple tree at all. “Where did the apple come from?” she pondered. Looking down, she noticed the sheen of the red. “I bet Grandmother would like this apple,” she said to herself. Little did she notice the set of tracks leading away from the oddly placed apple or the red moon of the night. For she was young and unaware of her surroundings or of the forthcoming terrors she would face.

Ah… the story of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. It really is a gruesome tale when you think about it. A young girl goes to her grandmother’s house to deliver some food. A rather noble and good act of kindness and family. One the way, a wolf catches wind of her plan and beats her there, killing the grandmother and wearing her clothes to fool the little girl. HOLY CRAP! THAT IS SUCH A HORRIBLE CHILDREN’S TALE!!!!

This piece originally started out as a request from a friend for a specific image. She didn’t really want something too intense but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to make something amazing out of it. I wanted to keep the image simple, using lots of lines to draw out the details and a splash of color at best.
